I.  Jenny's Education

In a phone call on October 27, 2006 Oropeza Press Secretary Ray Sotero confirmed that Jenny does not hold a college degree - despite what these articles and web pages say.

II.  Jenny's Run for the Speakership

The former jennyoropeza.com website (by another web author) contained this mock memo regarding Oropeza's unsuccessful run for the the position of Speaker of the Assembly.  The references to lying may or may not be based upon fact.  To read more about this controversy, obtain the Times article, and do a Google on:  oropeza nunez "richie ross".

A memo that you WON'T see...

Election Year, 2004

To my Constituents:

You may know that I recently sought the top position of power in the State Assembly, namely to become the Speaker of the Assembly.

I figured that the two spectacular budgets that I helped to shape during my performance as Chair of the Budget Committee would make me a shoo-in for Speaker. (You know, the budgets that resulted in the recall of a sitting Governor....)

And you may also know that I was not selected to be Speaker of the Assembly.

What you probably DON'T know is that in my effort to become Speaker, I told my Assembly colleagues things that were not true just to line up the votes I needed to win this position of high trust and honor.

Unfortunately, the appearance of an LA Times article on Nov. 20th shut the door on my winning the Speakership, because the Times reported on how I lied to my colleagues. And as Assemblymember Mark Ridley Thomas said, in the Times article, "We need a Speaker who the Members can trust is telling the truth."

Just hours after the LA Times appeared in the Capitol building that day, I quietly released a letter pulling out of the Speaker's race and have not said one word publicly since then. Hopefully, I won't have to ever talk about it.

I suppose I should apologize to you -- my constituents -- for having lied and now for going silent on the whole thing. But since no one actually seems to notice the lie, I am just going to sit tight and hope it just blows over.

As always,

Jenny Oropeza
